When you encrypt a file or files within a folder, you are converting it to a format that cannot be read or opened by anyone else.

To Encrypt a File or Folder:
1) Open nokVAULT
2) Right-click the item you wish to encrypt and select “Encrypt” from the nokVAULT sub-menu

If you encrypt a folder instead of a single file, you choose to encrypt all the files within the folder. However, when you add new files and subfolders to the encrypted folder, they will not be automatically encrypted.

3) Assign a key

You may choose to select the default key created during the installation process, select a previously created key from the drop down menu, or create a new key specifically for that file or folder.

Your encrypted files will be marked with a blue shield with the letter “e” on them in order to identify that they have been encrypted.

Encrypting a file will secure the file contents and disable any accessibility to the file when nokVAULT is closed. Files that have been encrypted cannot be moved, copied, deleted or renamed. Even though encrypted files cannot be opened when nokVAULT is closed, they will remain visible only as files located in your operating system.

Encrypted files remain in the same location with the same file name. If nokVAULT is open, the Encrypted Files can be opened and manipulated normally.

Encrypted files will also appear in the Encrypted Files section within the nokVAULT main menu. The Encrypted Files section displays all your encrypted files by name, their path, encryption type, and associated key size.

How to Decrypt a File

When you decrypt a file or files within a folder, you are converting it back to the original format that can be read and opened by anyone.

To decrypt a file or folder:
1) Open your nokVAULT
2) Right-click the encrypted file you wish to decrypt
3) Select “decrypt” from the nokVAULT sub-menu

When you decrypt a folder, all files contained within the folder will be decrypted.

Once a file has been decrypted it is removed from the Encrypted Files section within the nokVAULT main menu and can be accessed by anyone.
